KASHMIRI MASSAGE
Kashmiri Massage
When I first learned massage, back in 1993, we were always told that our clients should be completely still and quiet. We were also actively discouraged from engaging our clients at all. I have always held a different belief. I think this shouldn’t be the case at all.
This is why I particularly love the Kashmiri Massage. The purpose of Kashmiri Massage is to help you remain flexible and mobile. By involving you to actually make movements, far from laying still, this is designed to actively move your body, almost as though you’re dancing with me while you’re laying down.
Throughout your session, I will assist you into various positions, some which are very similar to yoga postures. This is because it allows me to access more muscle groups more easily than conventional massage. Most importantly, it’s far more effective because I can remove more tension and tightness from your muscles and it also gives you greater feelings of intensity. This, in turn, gives you much more pleasure as a result. To get the best results from your massage, it’s a good idea to see if we’re a good fit for each other, first. If you visit the questions and answers page, look for the question that reads “Are we a good fit?”.
Having done massages for a great many years, I’ve discovered that massage where the receiver is more mobile, rather than laying still, usually has men reporting far better results, including those relating to pain reduction, flexibility and openness, with greater improvement in posture and personal satisfaction.
Kashmiri Massage
Kashmiri Massage originated many years ago in Cashmere in Northern India. It was otherwise known as ‘Shiva Shakti’. It’s a very different form of tantra which had yoga postures very much at the core of the practice. It was considered as important as the massage itself. Kashmiri Massage involves you being much more mobile during your massage. To achieve this you’ll be making rocking and ripple like movements, doing some light, gentle body shaking, and making verbal expressions, telling me what you want me to do more of.
I may, depending on your taste, use a more lively, upbeat, playlist for this massage and encourage you to move to the music more (if you wish to, of course. It’s never an expectation).
What does Kashmiri Massage involve?
I encourage you to move your body in such a way that it ripples slowly like a ribbon. You might think it difficult but, actually, with support from me, it’s surprisingly easy.
It has certain benefits, similar to yoga, in that some of the positions I put you into will resemble yoga postures in some form, and will help you stay nice and flexible.
Often, during this phase of the massage, vertebra or vertebrae, will click back into place, the muscles that held it tight suddenly letting go and relaxing.
It can give you more energy
This can give you renewed energy. Muscles holding on, when they’re not needed, are a bit like leaving a light switched on in an empty room. They have no use, other than wasting your energy and, as a result, this can cause your muscles to become painful and tired.
When muscles are painful and tired, this may make them irritating. Because of that, it may eventually lead to your body over compensating, involving more muscle groups than necessary, even for simple things you do. This can have a negative effect, not only on your energy levels, but your general mobility and flexibility too.
Kashmiri Massage also helps you with your self-expression, which is extremely important, especially these days.
It helps with your core muscles
During a Kashmiri Massage, I will also work on your core muscles around your backside, where we normally hold an enormous amount of tension.
When working in these areas and also getting you to be more mobile, by using your pelvic floor muscles during your massage, you’ll find your experience much more rewarding and pleasurable with a deeper sense of enjoyment. Some of you may possibly find it a little tiring, but it’s well worth it.
